i loved Neil in the movies! I really did NOT like David, though. To me it was really obvious that eh didn't really love Christy, and plain as day that Neil did. Watching the movies(and reading the books) made me fall in love with him.

Reading through the threads, I was very surprised to find that Catherine Marshall's mother had married the preacher. I admit I was disappointed.

Thanks, DF, for sharing the story behind the pond. All farms have ponds for watering livestock, so I figured there was a good chance it was there prior to the set. I remember you telling us about the frogs! Funny! Always enjoyable to hear your stories. Thanks.

Quite sometime ago. My kids were elementary age and now they're in their mid twenties.

I have fond memories of the day the owner of that property allowed our family to walk all around the movie set as long as we didn't go inside the buildings. Glad I took lots of pictures and journaled the day!

Welcome, glad to swap howdies with you. I'm one of the presenters for ChristyFest 2014. I'll be speaking about Catherine Marshall and her efforts in researching and writing Christy.

Just signed up as a new member. My wife and I are coming to Christyfest 2014. We watched the series in early January after purchasing it from Amazon. We have since rented the movies as well. We much preferred the original series but have enjoyed them all in their own way. It turns out that James Waterston, who plays the Preacher in the sequels, is the grandson of a gentleman with whom I worked with over 40 yrs ago in Naples FL.

Been awhile since I ranged over to this site! But I can relate PLENTY about that pond! The whole set of the church/school and mission house were built in an actual cow pasture, and that pond was the cattles' drinking source! It was quite the muddy mess when filming began(the cows liked to wade and wallow in the pond in hot weather, as well as drink there), and a LOT of "landscaping" went on there before the Christy crew were finished with it! Banks were smoothed out, cattails and other plants were planted, the Gazebo built on it's banks, etc. etc. At one point there were complaints from the sound crew because in the summer, the frog calls were so continuous and loud in the evenings and at night(yes, a LOT of shooting went on at night!), that sometimes you could hardly hear the actors' dialogues over the frogs!!!
