Membership Rules

As the Christy Forum expands, it is beneficial to have the Membership Rules clearly explained and accessible to all members. Please read the rules before joining, and do re-read them from time to time.
These rules are provided as a framework for a friendly, functional forum from a membership and administrative angle. The rules are not meant to be draconian or heavy handed. However, clear rules will help everyone understand how the board fuctions, and what is, and is not, allowed. Rules may be revised as the situation demands but all updates will be announced as and when necessary.

Last updated 11/10/2008 to include elaborate on post guidelines and add rule #12
1. Board Purpose This Christy Forum [or Message Board] exists to house and promote the discussion of the various incarnations of Christy, such as the novel by Catherine Marshall, the CBS Series, and PAX movies. It is the place to discuss ChristyFest™, the Official Annual Festival devoted to the above aspects of Christy. The Forum is also a place of friendship and discussion, meant to be a warm and welcoming place for fun and entertainment.
2. Moderation This Board is maintained by the Christy Community and as such, available to all. However, the board is moderated and administrated by current and past members of the ChristyFest Planning Team to ensure postings are kept to the purpose for which it was designed. The Moderation Team reserves the right to delete, edit or moderate anything on the MB that is not in the spirit of the community, and to discipline members if needed. If you have difficulties, email moderators@christyfest.org or send a Private Message to a Global Moderator.
3. Accounts Members may have one account and on the whole name changes are not possible. Each person must have their own account even if they reside in the same household as another member. If you forgot your log in information, we can re-enable access to your account - email moderators@christyfest.org.

4. Post Guidelines -This site is and must remain family friendly. Do not use heavy or excessive expletives. Be respectful when discussing adult issues and do not use crass language or vulgarity. Treat everyone fairly and equally. Discrimination is not permitted.
-Use proper grammar and spelling. Please do not use “txt” speak. Common internet abbreviations [such as LOL, which means Laughing out Loud] are acceptable. If English is not your primary language, your best efforts are appreciated. Unreadable posts may by subject to moderation. Repeat offenders will be reminded by a moderator.
- Please be courteous and avoid posting a message more than once. Please try to post your message in the appropriate subject area and avoid starting new topics when one like it already exists. Off topic posts are allowed, but should be in the appropriate "Off Topic" section of the board.
-If you modify your post, please consider adding a reason at the bottom of the post, this is a common internet/forum convention. Deletion or excessive editing of a post that invalidates subsequent posts is not allowed.
- Do NOT post the contact details of any individual. This includes their name if you do not have their permission or it is not commonly known on the message board.
- Moderators may edit your post if it violate the rules – they will try to contact you first but in some cases that may not be possible. If you have a question, contact a Global Moderator.
5. Community When posting, please keep the wording of your posts in the spirit of the community and be respectful of other's thoughts and opinions whether you agree or disagree. Flaming will NOT be tolerated.
6. Member-only boards Currently the Friendship Forum is for members only with a 5 post minimum. This is to increase security and protection of potentially personal data. For more information on this, please read this thread.
7. Personal Information Use discretion when posting personal information such as name, location, address, etc. Non members can view ALL messages except those in the Friendship Forum. Do NOT post the personal information of other members and do NOT assume it is OK to post their real name even if you know them in real life. Wait and see if they post it first.
8. Signature/avatar size restrictions Signatures may include text or an image, and appear at the bottom of each of your posts. Images may not exceed 200 pixels wide and 200 pixels high. Signatures may NOT advertise your business. Pick something fun or inspirational – signatures must be tasteful and family friendly.

Avatars are the photos that appear under your user name on the left side of your posts. Avatars may be 100 pixels wide and 100 pixels high. For more information on creating an avatar, click here read the thread on creating avatars.
9. Disputes on the Message Board If you have a problem with a member or a moderator, do not use the Forum to air your complaint. Use the Private Messaging system to discuss moderation calls or to ask questions. Arguing with moderation calls on the forums is not allowed and may lead to a warning. Please know the moderators have the best interest of the Christy Forum at heart.
10. Discipline The Christy Forum is a place for friendship and lively discussion. However, from time to time a member may need disciplined. Discipline procedures will be posted soon.
11. Business/Seller rules The Christy Forum is a non-commercial site. With the exception of official ChristyFest related business, open selling of items is prohibited on the Christy forum. We encourage sellers to discuss their work via the Private Messaging system and not on the Forum, even if you are asked directly in a thread. Posts may be edited if open selling begins to take place.
You are, however, permitted to link to your place of business on the web in your Profile. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Log In to the MB
2. At the top of the page in the darker blue bar you will see an option labelled "Profile" - click it.
3. Type in your password at the prompt at the top to verify your identity.
4. Under “Additional Information” fill in “Website Title” and “Website URL”.
5. Scroll down and click ‘Change Profile’
Abuse of these privileges may result in a warning.
12. Personal Websites/Profile rules There are plenty of opportunities to network with friends on the Christy Forum. The best way to do this is to fill out your profile with contact details you want to share [like IM details] or add a subtle link in your signature if appropriate.
The purpose of this community is to discuss Christy but it is not a site for blatant crusting for friends. You may provide contact info via your profile but do not spam the board with friendship requests or requests to join third party friendship sites.
If you are being subjected to repeated friendship requests you feel are unwarranted, contact moderators@christyfest.org.
